College of Science for Women was found in June 24^th, 2002, but its departments are considered to be extended to those departments found first within the College of Education for women in 1984 except for the Department of Computer Science which was founded in 2002. The college offers a Bachelor of Science degree in the following specializations: Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Concerning evening classes, the college also offers the same degree for the above-mentioned departments except for the Physics Department which offers its students a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Physics. The college also offers Master of Science and Philosophy Doctorate degree in the following scientific specializations: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

        Female students join this college either because of their families' traditions that prevent them from joining coeducational colleges, or because of their total average they got from their final preparatory examinations and their acceptance here according to the Central Acceptance Programme.

         The college offers the woman the opportunity for higher studies and it aims at qualifying her scientifically and provides her with scientific experiences that prepare her for working in different fields that suit her. It also gives the woman the chance to continue her study to get M. Sc. and Ph. D degrees in order to be able to teach in the University or work in the scientific institutions.

         Iraq has been facing so many challenges that caused a change in some common principles of the requirements of training the woman. This requires qualifying her, supporting her self-confidence and self-respect in order to be a strong person that will never be destroyed when facing troubles. Moreover, so many Iraqi families endure the difficult situations because of the struggle, arrogance and endurance of the Iraqi woman. That is why we concern to adjust the curricula of the high-standard scientific study that are in attachment with the scientific and technological developments and that fulfill the requirements of the expected work market. Those curricula also support the activities that strengthen self-confidence and develop personality and advance the devoted citizenship.          

         The College of Science for Women faces the same challenges as the other good colleges including catching the time and narrowing the gap that separates us from what other scientific colleges in the high-standard international universities. The requirements of the updating and developing processes are firmly related. We may argue uselessly if we try to prioritize them, but we have to begin.
